Are you one of those people who are fond of old things? If you love old things, you might want to turn a room in the house into a showcase of old world interior design. The good thing about the old world interior design is that you get to recreate the romance of the past.  Since old world interior design directly contrasts with modern living, you get to create something that is truly unique and refreshing in your ultra modern home.

Basement Finds

The first thing that you need to do to create a fabulous old world interior design is to rummage through your basement and your closet for some classic pieces of custom made furniture, trinkets and other materials. There is bound to be something that you can use from there. If your grandparents lived nearby, you can pay them a visit and ask if you can go through their pile of unused furniture and stuff. You will be surprised at the amount of antiques you can find in your grandparents house and they usually come for free. In fact, your grandparents will be happy to get rid of some of the clutter in their house so go over there and start hunting.

Deep Colors

When hunting for materials that you can use for your old world interior design project, you might want to get a few of those huge antique jars, those wrought iron works, that big wooden table with stains on it and those old books that you can put in a wooden shelf. Use fabrics with small floral designs to give your room that love feminine look that was famous in the olden times. For the window, try to find one of those heavy curtains in deep shades or purple or forest green. Purple gives the room that regal atmosphere and forest green can be very refreshing. For a multi-layered look, you might want to make use of fringe, tassels and beaded trim. You may also want to make use of laces and embroideries.

Once you find a few nice pieces that you can use for your old world interior designer project, you can now start decorating your room. According to some experts, it is better to plan things according to what you already have at the moment especially if you are on a budget. By using everything that you already have for you already have, you get to save a lot of money on your interior decoration.

Reviewing New Designs For Your Bathroom

interior design services

Before finalizing your bathroom design, it is a good idea to visit a showroom to take a look at some of the new designs out there. “If you’ve got a very long-legged or tall person who enjoys a bath, you’re not going to want to put a standard tub in,” explains professional interior designer Sarah Ann Busby. “It’s nice to take someone to a showroom, for instance, so they can sit in a tub or stand in a shower that’s a certain size.” You will also get a feel for innovative designs, colors and fixtures you may not have come across in your research.

While on a vacation, one of the most impressive features is usually the bathroom design. Women love that there is a separate vanity area with lighting, mirrors and a sink, where they can put on their makeup, brush their teeth, do their hair and spread out their supplies a little. Additional drawer space reduces clutter, which the men can appreciate. Rather than a shower stall, there is a separate whirlpool-spa tub and an enlarged shower area with space for drying off, which eliminates the need for shower curtains. New designs include heated floors and towel racks, natural halogen lighting and soft paint colors, in addition to multiple sprayers, all of which add luxury hotel caliber ambiance to one’s bathroom.

New designs for bathrooms can quickly be created by simply slapping on a fresh coat of water-resistant paint and new tiles. In bathroom design, tile styles are abundant. Do you want subway, stone, pebble, crystal, mosaic or lighted tile anyway? Mosaic tiles are some of the more popular home designs, made from shards of colorful porcelain or glass arranged in square, rectangle, circular or hexagonal patterns. Check out Erin Adams’ Quilt tiles that come in pretty patterns, Oceanside Glass Tile’s Tessera tiles, which come in 42 eco-friendly colors, or Sicis Metallismo stainless steel or polished brass tiles.

Color is the starting point for many Americans looking at new designs for their bathrooms. “You need colors you like to make you feel good in any room, and the bathroom, even a small powder room, should not be neglected,” advises professional interior designer Cy Winship of Minneapolis. Since the bathroom is so small, you can get away with brighter color palettes. Choose colors that complement your towels and bath rugs. For instance, chocolate-brown goes well with vintage pastel tiles that so many older bathrooms have. While dark colors may look great, you need to make sure the lighting is bright enough to do your shaving or put on your makeup. Avoid lime green or sickly yellow, which will make you look like a horror show in the morning, Winship cautions.
